We may never know the reason for this strange little "coincidence", but it makes for a good tale at the very least....
On the way home from Waynesville, Rusty was the first to mention a need for dinner. Originally, we had decided that Winston-Salem would be a good place to stop, but we got a later start than we had expected, so that got moved up to Hickory. Well, about ten miles shy of Hickory, Rusty spotted one of those signs that lists all the restaurants for the next exit and thought that Granny's Country Kitchen might be a good place to try. I argued (mostly because I really wasn't very hungry yet), that he had wanted to stop in Hickory, and besides, who had ever heard of Icard? There wasn't much chance of this place having a decent restaurant! Nevertheless he pulled off. Britt mumbled her surprise about it being a sit-down restaurant, apparently desiring that the trip progress faster. No doubt having had enough of being stuck alone with the two of us.
We all trudge into this obviously local gathering place and who should we see coming toward us but our good friend, Jan Owens! Eddie, was not far behind! Turns out, they were coming back from taking Brad to Nashville and like us, were eating dinner much later than usual (8:00), had decided to stop in Hickory, but saw the sign for Granny's Country Kitchen and Eddie being an adventurous soul, thought it sounded like it might be a cultural hotspot! Neither one of us had ever seen or heard of this town or restaurant before but somehow we both ended up making a split decision to take a chance on it at the exact same time. WEIRD!
