Hurricanes' Home Opener

I ended up getting a free ticket to the Canes game last night from one of our Marketing vendors. He said he has some pretty good seats for us. He was wrong. He had AMAZING seats for us. The vendor grabbed us some hotdogs and beer and we headed to our spots...

Section 122, Row D. Right at the away-side-goalie face-off circle, 4 rows from the ice.

The Canes played a good game. Down 1-0 the whole game, where the Canes just missed 3 goals. One of them even lit the lamps, but on review the puck did not completely cross the line. Another was a ricochet off the goalie's right shoulder that just barely caught the post and bounced out.

Another highlight was seeing Ovechkin checked into the glass 3 feet in front of us with his big dumb face streaking across the boards...

On the way out, while walking up the stairs, we kept hearing people yelling questions to "Sidney". Turns out the guy walking behind me up the steps was Sidney Lowe. He answered every yelled question about this season with "Yes, we're really excited".

Gotta love random job perks...

Dire Disease in your Future!

All you chickens that have had chicken pox (which I believe is all of you), WARNING! It's not over yet!
I just spent more than a week in the most excruciating pain I have felt since giving birth to some of you (you know who you are) and it turns out it was a return of the chicken pox virus that has lain dormant inside of me for some 45+ years. UGH! You do not want this to happen to you!
I read (a little too late) that there is a vaccine out there for shingles, so you might want to look into it. Just sayin'.

A Great Day!

So, today was a really good day. It all started when East Carolina University BEAT NC State!!!!! After that, I went to food lion and bought stuff to make dinner for my roommates and my friend Jina. I had found a recipe online for shrimp linguine, and made it. This was my first time making shrimp linguine and it turned out really good. Just thought I would share that. So, now I know how to make shrimp linguine! :)

Baby Formula

Don't you love a good double meaning for a blog title?

You may not know this, but I plan things in advance. As a result of this, Brianna and I have a running formula that shows when we feel we will be financially ready to have our first child. While both of us are ready to start our family, we have decided wait in order to make the transition into parenthood as seamless as possible. Without further ado: the formula:

0 = 14807.78 - 419.82b - y(b-z) - x

b is the time in months.
y is the amount of additional funds we can pay per month.
z is the number of months that elapse before we start to pay y
x is a one-time amount that we pay in

currently y z and x are 0.

That means that if you were to solve for b, 35.27 months. September 2013.

With Brianna's new job, it is likely that y will be greater than zero when she starts in November (making z=2).

Feel free to contribute to x... just think, if x=14807.78, then b would be 0...

Happy Birtyday Jaycee

God gave a gift to the world when you were born, a person who loves, who cares, who sees a person's need and fills it, who encourages and lifts people up, who spends eneryy and time on others rather thay herself. May the love you have shown to others retutn to you multiplied, and may you have the happiest of birthdays, and many more, so that others have time to appericate you as much as I do.

I love you

ASU to Conduct Football Feasibility Study

App has been on the road to the FBS for a while now... It looks like it is taking a serious step forward over the next 9 to 12 months. It's not like we couldn't be competitive in the ACC right now...

Go Apps!

BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University athletics will conduct a feasibility study to evaluate its football program's position in NCAA Division I, director of athletics Charlie Cobb announced on Thursday.

The goal of the study is to evaluate Appalachian's options with regards to the changing Division I landscape. ASU currently competes as a member of the Southern Conference in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS — formerly known as Division I-AA).

ASU's Board of Trustees approved the feasibility study last week. Appalachian athletics has selected the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) to conduct the independent study and a private donation will cover its cost. A completion of the study and an internal analysis of its findings will likely take approximately 9-12 months.

"With the changing Division I landscape and the unprecedented success that our football program has enjoyed on and off the field in recent years, the time is right to analyze all of our options as a Division I athletics department and football program," Cobb said. "This study is a broad, campus-wide analysis to identify what our options are as a University, athletics department and football program going forward. It does not take away one bit of focus from our football program's goal of winning a sixth-straight Southern Conference championship and competing for a fourth national title in six years."

Appalachian conducted a feasibility study to explore a move to what was then known as Division I-A (now known as the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision) in 1998 and it was ultimately determined to remain as a member of Division I-AA. However, in light of recent changes in the Division I ranks, Appalachian is joining fellow SoCon member Georgia Southern and FCS power Montana as athletics departments that are in the midst of or have recently completed football feasibility studies.

Appalachian's success on and off the field is unprecedented for an FCS program. The Mountaineers won NCAA Division I national championships in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and has won five-consecutive SoCon titles while leading FCS in regular-season home attendance each of the past three years. Through two home games this season, ASU is once again tops in FCS attendance with an average of 28,963 fans at 21,650-seat Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Off the field, the football program's most recent Academic Progress Rate score of 970 fell just shy of earning an NCAA Public Recognition Award, which recognizes programs that rank among the nation's top 10 percent in terms of APR scores.
